On September 29th and 30th, 2012, we held a special event to commemorate the 35th anniversary of our company at the Motomazabu Gallery, where all entries for the Third Photo Contest were displayed. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who submitted their works and those who visited the event.
After careful deliberation, the judges selected the following 11 award-winning works from the 106 entries submitted from across the country.

Shinya Yamamoto

Born in 1939 in Kanda, Tokyo. Graduated from the Department of Theater at Nihon University College of Art. In 1964, he studied under director Shin Hanami at Iwanami Film and became an assistant director. The following year, he made his directorial debut in the independent Japanese cinema scene. His body of work in Nikkatsu Roman Porno includes over 250 films. In 1990, he became concerned with the AIDS crisis and started volunteer work. He later expanded his activities to give lectures at middle and high schools and public health centers across the country. For 21 years, he reported a wide range of social phenomena, from the adult entertainment industry to travel topics, on the TV program Tonight. He also hosted Shinya Yamamoto’s Naruhodo! Tokyo Walk.

Genichiro Takahashi

Born in 1951 in Hiroshima Prefecture. In 1981, he debuted with his novel Sayōnara, Gangu-tachi, which won the prestigious 4th Gendai Shōnen Award for Best New Work. In 1988, he received the 1st Yukio Mishima Prize for Elegant and Sentimental Japanese Baseball, and in 2002, he won the 13th Itō Seiji Literary Award for History of the Rise and Fall of Japanese Literature. His notable works include Someday I Will Ride the Soul Train, A Novel School for 130 Million People, Japanese Novels – One Hundred Years of Solitude, and many others. His latest work is the novel Goodbye Christopher Robin (Shinchōsha, April 2012).

Ryosuke Handa

Born in 1954 in Kyoto. He is a writer, photographer, and printmaker. His works span various genres from erotica to nature, showcasing a unique world. His publications include The Science of Being Single, Geometries of Scenic Beauty, Strange Bookshelves, Sexual Expression in the 20th Century, and many others. His translated works include Encyclopedia of Bad Taste and A Guide to Strange Professions, among others. His photography collections include The Land of Mirrors’ Breasts, BREASTS: A Photo Collection, and Erotissimo. He runs the art gallery SPINGALLERY in Jinbocho. His latest work is a photo collection focusing on the beauty of the female form, HIPS: Sphere Collection (Space Shower Network, June 2012).

Kyoichi Tsuzuki

Born in 1956 in Tokyo. From 1976 to 1986, he wrote articles on contemporary art, architecture, design, and urban life for Popeye and Brutus magazines. Between 1989 and 1992, he published Art Random, a comprehensive 102-volume collection covering global contemporary art trends of the 1980s. Since then, he has continued writing on contemporary art, architecture, photography, and design. In 1993, he published TOKYOSTYLE, which captured the real-life experiences of Tokyoites. His work ROADSIDE JAPAN (1996) won the 23rd Kimura Ihei Award. He continues to travel and report on roadsides in Japan and around the world. In January 2012, he launched a members-only newsletter, ROADSIDERS’ Weekly, which focuses on new subjects not previously featured in magazines. His recent work is Tokyo’s Right Half (Chikuma Shobo, March 2012).
